Golkar party lawmaker Mukhamad Misbakhun criticized on Thursday remarks made by former finance minister Chatib Basri who cautioned the government not to so easily grant incentives in order to attract more investment into Indonesia.
Misbakhun, a member of the House of Representatives’ Commission XI for finance, said that Chatib’s warning was not relevant to the current economic climate as the present situation was entirely different compared to the time when Chatib was still in office.
“The government currently needs brave and creative ways to attract investment into Indonesia. [With the incentives provided], our economy will grow and more jobs will be created, and poverty rates can be lowered too,” said the former tax official.
